Dr. Armie and Mrs. Liberty Jesalva

Founder, Pastor Emeritus, Bible Baptist Church

Cebu Bob Hughes Christian Academy was born in the mind of our late missionary, Bob Hughes, five years before it was actually started. He was so concerned about education of the children of Bible Baptist Church that he spent a lot of time praying for it and asking God for the possibility of training our little ones based on Bible principles. He imagined children running around our church campus.

Dr. Bob Hughes was promoted to glory in 1976, but God left the school idea in our hearts. We finally started in June 1978 with 60 students and four committed volunteers – Mrs. Jesalva, Mrs. Sarah Soria, Mrs. Daisy Saja and Miss Pie Navaja. Since the curriculum Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) was new to us, we submitted for training under the tutelage of Dr. Howard, pioneer and founder of ACE Philippines. We have come a long way, enjoying the blessings of seeing out of our graduates, pastors, doctors, lawyers, nurses, dentists, teachers and many others.

We are celebrating 40 years of God’s faithfulness and excitement of overseeing 230 students under the custody of our principal, Mrs. Priscilla Rustila, 25 hardworking teachers and our new administrator, Mr. Curtis Motsinger, from Liberty University, Lynchburg, Virginia.

Pastor Kent Jesalva

President and Senior Pastor, Bible Baptist Church

As the winds of change continue to blow in our world today, the needs of our children has never changed. Education is first on the list. Education of the heart has always been the core of CHRISTIAN Education.

A consistent focus of instilling God’s Word, its principles and precepts into the hearts of our children in dynamic ways that fit their level of learning and living.

Thank you for choosing Cebu Bob Hughes Christian Academy and helping us achieve this vision for our children.

Curt and Arli Motsinger

CBHCA Administrator and Liaison

Just like Esther, God has worked in all our lives to bring us to this point in both place and time for “such a time as this.” As we celebrate our 40+ years of schooling, we reminisce a cherished history and eagerly anticipate a dynamic and visionary future. Equipped with new vision, mission and overall spiritual direction of our newly appointed pastor, Kent Jesalva, my wife Arli and I are leading the administration, faculty and staff to strive for excellence in every area of the educational experience.  As we develop new strategies to improve the educational process, we remain true to the founding principles by sticking to our clearly defined mission, vision and frequently articulated core values. These core values permeate the curriculum with over 90 character traits and over 100 memory verses every year. It is also our commitment to these values, taught in the pages and verses of the Bible that guide us in our development of policies and procedures of this handbook.

Ephesians 4:3 implores us to be “Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” Our commitment to this unity ensures a healthy and peaceful atmosphere for Christian learning to flourish. Thank you, parents and students, for the part you play in keeping the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

About Us

The Cebu Bob Hughes Christian Academy Incorporated is one of the ministries undertaken by Bible Baptist Church Katipunan. CBHCA comes under the education ministry that is run and operated as a separate entity from the church administration. Bible Baptist Church Katipunan has other education ministries that are directly supervised under the authority of the Bible Baptist Church administration.

Cebu Bob Hughes Christian Academy is located at 55 Katipunan Street, Calamba, Cebu City. To date, the school has one building with three storeys. The facilities include a canteen, laboratory, administrative offices, library, clinic and a computer lab. The school also has access to the church facilities such as the auditorium and function room.

The school operates under the Accelerated Christian Education Curriculum, or the School of Tomorrow System for its pre-elementary to Grade 10 programs. It accepts students for kindergarten as well as elementary and secondary education. Secondary Education includes both junior and senior high school.  The SOT System is used for the junior high school, while conventional teaching is used for Senior High School. CBHCA offers strands in Accounting, Business and Management (ABM), Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) and General Academic Strand (GAS).

The school is under the leadership of Pastor Kent Jesalva who sits as Senior Pastor and President. Mr. Curt Motsinger is the School Administrator. Other school officers are Mrs. Priscilla Rustila who is the Principal for the kindergarten, elementary and Junior High and Dr. Ruth G. Mercado who is Principal for Senior High.

Mrs. Priscilla V. Rustila

Principal

Cebu Bob Hughes Christian Academy’s reason for its being is to obey God’s instruction “To train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he shall not depart from it.” (Prov. 22:6)

I can claim with all confidence that CBHCA is a true Christian School because the Bible is not one of the subjects only but the Word of God is interwoven into every PACE of every subject.  Every PACE teaches one of the 90 character traits of Jesus Christ.

The school produces academic excellence as evidenced by her graduates who are successful in their careers. However, more than the academics, the school gives more importance to building the students’ lives and character so that they become moral and upstanding citizens and Christian leaders who will impact their community and our country for the glory of God.

Dr. Ruth Mercado

Principal, Senior High School

It is about knowing what we want our children and students to become. When we send our children to school, we do so with the purpose and belief that they are trained and fed with knowledge, wisdom, understanding and skills. When we choose to send our children to be educated in Cebu Bob Hughes Christian Academy, we do so with the purpose and belief that they are imbibed with a grounding of Godly values and the Christian spirit. Even so, have we considered what we want our children to become long after they have finished junior high, senior high and college?

In Cebu Bob Hughes Christian Academy, we help you make the choices and understand the options of what you want your children to become for them to be relevant to community and humanity. People are technology and technology moves with people. When we say people are technology, we see a metaphor of a human being as the sum total of the technology of God’s creation. Like a machine, a man has bones, parts and a physique that gives him the agility to move. But unlike a machine, a man has the mysterious workings of the brain that thinks and invents. Unlike a machine, man has the miraculous functioning of the heart to make him discern. Education and literacy predicates what a man becomes of the technology God created him to be.

People are technology and technology moves with people. We may build infrastructures, but we need people with strong leadership inspired with the character of the Lord Jesus Christ to undertake the designing of infrastructures for good use. We may build bridges, but we need people who have the spirit of compassion to discern and resolve contradictions that come with running organizations. We may build economic powerhouses but we need people who are sensitive to relationships and understand what it means to love community more than self. People are technology but technology needs to be tempered with the heart and mind of Christ to make this relevant to community and humanity.

What do you want your child to become? Let us help you know your options. At Cebu Bob Hughes Christian Academy, we help you track that vision.
